Instructions for Proposal Preparation and Submission

• VLBA and HSA proposals, including VLBA+Effelsberg

  • VLBA and HSA proposals, including VLBA+Effelsberg proposals, must be prepared and submitted using the Proposal Submission Tool. Note that email submission of VLBA+Effelsberg proposals should no longer be used since these will in future be handled as a subset of the HSA.

  • Submission deadlines: February 1, August 1. A proposal must be received by close of business (5:00 p.m. = 1700 hours Eastern Standard or Daylight Time) on the date of the deadline. If the deadline falls on a holiday or weekend, it is extended to the next working day.

  • Submissions by email, fax, or paper will not be considered.

• Global 3mm VLBI (GMVA)

  • GMVA projects are correlated at Bonn, using the DiFX software correlator. Proposals must therefore be submitted to both NRAO and Bonn, as described below.

  • GMVA proposals should be prepared using the following LAT_EX templates, filling in the blanks as instructed in the comment lines:

    • PostScript
    • LAT_EX

  • Run LAT_EX on the file created using the template above, and produce a single PostScript file incorporating the cover page, your scientific justification, and any figures, if necessary, in PostScript format. Standard PostScript black and white figures can be included. For the version to be sent to NRAO, make sure that you specify letter size paper (e.g., dvips -t letter -o proposal.ps proposal.dvi), otherwise your proposal will not print correctly since the default page size in most dvips versions is A4.

  • E-mail this single PostScript file to: propsoc@nrao.edu; and to propvlbi@mpifr-bonn.mpg.de.

    1. The files must be in pure PostScript form. Do not zip (win, gnu or other) or compress them, and do not use "mime" to mail them;
    2. Files larger than 5 Megabytes will be bounced back to the user with instructions on how to submit the proposal via anonymous ftp.

  • Submit only one copy of each proposal via email to the above addresses.

  • Submission deadlines: February 1, August 1, as for VLBA/HSA.

• EVN or Global cm VLBI

  • For proposals involving the European VLBI Network, either alone or with the VLBA (Global cm VLBI), you must prepare and submit proposals using the EVN NorthStar Tool. Further guidelines for the submission of EVN or Global cm VLBI proposals may be found at http://www.ira.inaf.it/evn_doc/guidelines.html

  • Submission deadlines: February 1, June 1, October 1. Proposals must be received by 23:59:59 UTC on the day of the deadline.
