The NRAO medical premiums are based on your level of annual salary. Part-time employees' medical premiums are based on the full-time equivalent of their salary. Effective January 1, 2009 - If both spouses are employed by the NRAO, premiums will be calculated on the higher spouses salary. At the time you enroll, you must elect whether to make your employee contributions with before-tax or after-tax dollars. Making your contributions before-tax simply means they will be deducted from your regular paycheck before Federal and State income and Social Security taxes are taken. Since your taxes are based on a lower income, you pay less in taxes. Contributions which are deducted from your pay after taxes are withheld result in no tax savings to you. 2009 Medical Premiums - Effective January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009
