National Radio Astronomy Observatory Archives: NRAO Timeline

[AUI, NRAO, GBO, LBO logos]

1 October 2016. The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is now operating under a new, 10-year cooperative agreement between the National Science Foundation (NSF) and NRAO’s management organization Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI). This agreement includes operation of the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA), the North American share of the international Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), and NRAO’s development laboratories and administrative and management functions. The Green Bank Telescope (GBT) and Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), formerly NRAO instruments, are now independent facilities known as the Green Bank Observatory (GBO) and the Long Baseline Observatory (LBO). AUI now manages both the GBO and LBO for the NSF under separate cooperative agreements. NRAO’s public website will be updated to reflect these changes. Certain historical and programmatic content related to the GBT and VLBA -- including images, past news releases, and select educational resources -- will remain part of NRAO websites.
