Wildlife
The Very Large Array spans 22 miles of desert in central New Mexico that is home to a variety of animal species. It is not uncommon to find antelope and jackrabbits gnawing on the sparse grasses and herbs that dot the Plains of San Agustin. Colorful songbirds visit, and some owls make their homes here. Visitors must keep aware of other locals, such as scorpions and rattlesnakes, that sun themselves, live, and hunt across the VLA site.
