Thompson, University of Manchester
Description
Data taken 20-21 December 1955 as part of Thompson's PhD thesis at Jodrell. It was a group effort to extend interferometer baselines using a radio link. The famous and very important set of observations established for the first time that there were some radio sources that were very very small. The modern name for the radio source being observed in the chart record (given on the record as 05-39 in RA) is 3C 84 (NGC 1275). The chart record shows weak interference fringes. Thompson's contributions were more likely instrumental rather than astronomical.
