Frames 16 through 26:
Near the beginning of the observations, the NASA RXTE satellite observed a strong X-ray flare near the neutron star and this has produced the increasing strength of the radio core. We also think that this X-ray flare was so intense that it violently distorted the disk around the neutron star and destroyed the beam which transports the electrons out to the lobes. It will take about three hours for this energy flow to reach the advancing lobe. The flow to the receding lobe disappears later, but this is only because it is behind Sco X-1 and it takes longer for its radio emission to reach us. The advancing lobe will soon disappear.
