Twenty years ago, ALMA project managers and scientists from NRAO and ESO traveled to Tokyo to discuss Japanese involvement in ALMA. On 16 January 2001, they raised a toast to future collaboration. Left to right: Yoshihiro Chikada, Mark Rafel, Bob Brown, Masato Ishiguro, Richard Kurtz, Stefan Guilloteau, Richard Wade, Seichi Sakamoto. Japan formally joined ALMA in 2004.
