Getting to the Workshop

Location & Directions

The workshop is to be held in Green Bank, West Virginia at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. If you require travel assistance, please e-mail Shirley Curry.

  • Airport directions
    • Washington Dulles International Airport: We will be running shuttles at regular intervals between Dulles and Green Bank on May 2 for arrivals and on May 6 for departures. The shuttle ride between Dulles and Green Bank is approximately 4 hours in length. E-mail Jessica Taylor with your airline itinerary so that she can schedule you for shuttle pick-up and drop-off.
    • Greater Pittsburgh International Airport: Go east on route 60 to US 22/30. Follow 22/30 east to Interstate 79. Take I-79 south through Clarksburg, WV to the US 33 exit near Buckhannon, WV. Go east on US 33 through Buckhannon to Elkins, WV. Turn south on US 250/219 to go to Huttonsville. In Huttonsville, take US 250 (route 92) southeast to Bartow. Follow route 92/28 south to Green Bank.
    • Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport: Go east (straight) on Airport Road to US 29. Take 29 south to US 250, and follow 250 west to Interstate 64. Go west on I-64 to Interstate 81 near Staunton, VA. After travelling north on I-81 for 3.2 miles take the Woodrow Wilson Parkway exit. Go west on the parkway to US 250, and follow 250 west to Monterey, VA. In Monterey, turn south on US 220. After 3.9 miles, veer west on route 84 to go to Frost, WV. Follow route 92/28 north to Green Bank.
  • To and from nearest cities: From Charleston WV, Roanoke VA, Pittsburgh PA, Washington D.C., Charlottesville VA, Richmond VA
  • When you arrive in Green Bank: The entrance to the observatory is about one-half mile north of "downtown" Green Bank on the west side of route 92/28. Look for the Jansky and Reber antennas. They are located on either side of the entrance.
    • Monday (through end of opening reception): The residence hall is the first building on the right as one enters the observatory. Adequate parking is provided on the west side of the residence hall. Enter the residence hall through the double glass doors on the west side of the building. We will have a registration booth in the residence hall lobby where you can get your workshop materials and receive your lodging assignment and keys.
    • After Monday, but during business hours: Please go to the Jansky Lab main entrance and pick up your key packet and registration materials from Jessica Taylor (304-456-2227) in office number 112. You might find this site map helpful in finding the Jansky Lab.
    • Outside of business hours: Please go to the Jansky Lab main entrance and use the foyer phone to contact the GBT control room by dialing x2341. Once buzzed in, your key packet will be located down the right side hallway outside office number 112 on your left. You might find this site map helpful in finding the Jansky Lab.

Lodging & Meals

All workshop attendees will be housed on site at the Green Bank facility of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. We will also be providing meals on site at our cafeteria. Please e-mail Jessica Taylor to confirm your reservation or if you have questions about lodging or meals. Both lodging and meals will be provided to workshop attendees at no charge.
